Protect Your Network with Tupavco TP302 Ethernet Surge Protector: Gigabit PoE++ Lightning Suppressor for CAT5/CAT6 – 2 Pack Featuring Metal Shielding and Mounting Flange!

Product Description

Ethernet Surge ProtectorEthernet Surge Protector

The Ethernet Surge Protector (Pack of 2) is a surge mitigation device (SPD) that is placed inline on an RJ45 CAT6/CAT5/CAT5e cable to prevent harm to electronic networking devices.

Robust surges that the apparatus defends against include direct lightning impacts, voltage spikes, or PoE overvoltages. Although primary protection (a direct hit to a line) is provided, the thunder arrester also supplies secondary defense, which will halt EMF induced surges (nearby lightning Ethernet).

Gas discharge tubes (GDTs) have been designed to address some of the limitations associated with diode-based protectors such as energy handling capacity, making them suitable for almost all surges, regardless of frequency, allowing interception by a gas discharge tube surge arrester, thus ensuring a stringent spark discharge control performance.

The Ethernet Surge Suppressor TP302 employs a Gas Discharge Tube (GDT) across all 4 pairs (8 wires). Gas discharge tubes dissipate voltage transients through a contained plasma gas that captures excess voltage from incoming power and releases it safely. It guarantees the protection of a variety of essential components such as switches, routers, modems, bridges, repeaters, or any segment of the internet service network.

The mounting flanges on both sides of the lightning suppressor facilitate easy installation onto a wall, network panel, cabinet, or rack using screws (not included).

RJ45 Lightning Protection for Gigabit 10/100/1000 (GbE) and High PoE++ Networks

The gigabit surge protector supports a data transfer rate of Gigabit 10/100/1000 (GbE) with an ultra-fast maximum data rate of 1 Gigabit per second (Gbps – 1000 Mbps) without impairing the performance in the local area network. The PoE Surge Protector allows a single RJ-45 cable to provide both data connectivity and electrical power to devices such as wireless access points, IP and security cameras, VoIP phones, computers, and more. The Surge Arrestor TP302 is designed to shield PSE (power-supply equipment) linked to a network from transient overvoltages. The lightning protector PoE accommodates both Mode A (Pins 1,2+ 3,6-) and B (7,8+ 4,5-) of the 802.3af standard. 802.3af (PoE) can supply up to 15.4 watts per port with 12.95W at the connected device, while 802.3at (PoE+) can provide up to 30 watts with 25.5 watts accessible to devices. TP302 is compatible with PoE++, also referred to as High PoE (IEEE 802.3bt standard), permitting a maximum PoE current of 154W/48V when utilized with all 4 pairs.

Setup

The Ethernet lightning arrestor must have proper grounding to function effectively. The Ethernet ground wire (12 Inch – 16 AWG) from the surge protector should be connected to a ground source via the shortest route. Excess electrical current will seek the path of least resistance. In most situations, a ground busbar on an electrical panel or network rack cabinet is already grounded and is generally the most straightforward way to ground the wire. Alternative methods for grounding the RJ45 surge protector include a grounding block on the breaker panel, grounding rod, or a terminal of the nearest outlet by attaching the ground wire to the circular grounding hole on the grounded outlet’s center screw.

The lightning arrestor is compatible with unshielded twisted pair (UTP) or shielded (STP) cables. The arrester is sheltered in a cast aluminum enclosure, which permits shielded current to flow through the metal case of the network surge protector.

Protection Modes Line-Line, Line-Ground

The Line-to-Line ethernet surge protection mode is designed to safeguard against short circuits occurring between various nodes of the network system, while the Line-to-Ground mode ensures protection from short circuits between the network node and the ground. Since it is unpredictable when a transient will occur, having both modes of protection in place guarantees that damage is minimized. The nominal discharge current of 20KA defines the peak current that can flow through the SPD, possessing a wave shape of 8/20μs microseconds, and the RJ45 lightning arrestor remains operational after 15 surges.

Once the voltage on the surge protector exceeds its rated specification, it “starts to clamp” and initiates the conduction of energy directly to the grounding system. A bidirectional clamping on the CAT5 surge protector allows for levels both above and below the reference voltage by clamping the voltage that might cause harm.

Ethernet Surge Defender

Investing in a compact, straightforward to install surge defender encompassing all essential features and established dependability can serve as the most secure and economical choice for safeguarding your entire Ethernet network.

Multidirectional

The Ethernet network surge defender operates bi-directionally (IN/OUT), allowing the source input signal cable to connect from any side. It does not matter which side the equipment is placed; however, the surge protector will only shield networking equipment located on the side opposite where the surge occurs. For safeguarding devices on both sides, it is advisable to utilize one surge defender at each end of the RJ45 cable within the network architecture.
