Washers are beneficial for distributing the load evenly and should ideally be employed beneath the bolt head and beneath the nut (specifically under the bolt head when fastening into a threaded space). Flat washers along with finished/standard hex nuts are effective for the majority of uses, however, in situations where excessive vibration may occur, it is advisable to opt for lock washers and lock nuts instead.
