Lag screw bolts are utilized instead of conventional wood screws whenever the mounting area needs to support a substantial load. The hexagonal head enables lag screws to be tightened with greater torque than is feasible for Phillips head screws, although a pilot hole is still necessary prior to assembly. Please note that lag screws do not accommodate nuts as they are essentially robust wood screws crafted with threads intended to cut into wood. They are particularly suitable for deck applications since installation can be performed without needing access to both ends of the fastener, unlike standard hex bolts which necessitate a nut on the opposite side.
